Clout's Toby of Velikaya

"TOBY" -- (DOB: 6/8/04)

Easily overlooked, Toby is a handsome 45 lb. black dog. Seems to be one that is always there, somewhere in the team, adjusting to either speed or longer distance formats. Having run in all positions of the team, early in the season I thought he might be leader material, however, with his youth I chose not to try him in lead until late in the season. As with his siblings, half-brothers, and other dogs in the kennel, Toby is one we let loose to and from the hook-up area as we spend this time studying mannerisms and body-language. Late this season, 2006, Toby has passed his first test, not a glich seen, in leader school by accompanying an experienced front-ender without a neckline (we train without necklines on our leaders) on an intended shorter confidence builder. Continued shorter confidence leader building exercises are instore the remainder of the sledding season if conditions permit. I doubt Toby will have that one-in-a-million blistering speed of a superstar leader but believe his speed adequate to lead an open class team for the required distances.
