About Picket ...
Pick was our first dog. We adopted him
from CJ Cesari in Chelsea, VT, an
accomplished musher. Pick had been leading
for CJ for years on wilderness camping
trips, recreational runs and for school
groups. Prior to his life with CJ, he was a
mid-distance racing dog. Being super
friendly and dependable, Pick was the ideal
dog to teach us how to run dogs. In his
first three seasons with us, Pick trained
right along with everyone else and completed
several mid-distance races with Elizabeth,
often in lead. He is not the fastest dog nor
is he is the best example of the Siberian
Husky standard, but his consistently
positive attitude and sunny nature are
invaluable assets to the team's spirit and
success. He is also steady in harness; a
good role model, who never fusses and takes
commands correctly the first time it is
given. Thus, he also helps to train new
leaders. |

At 12
years old, Pick is now the senior male of
our kennel and while he has slowed down even
further because his hips are beginning to
bother him, his 'can do' attitude belies his
age. He led our first short training run
this season and wow was he proud! He smiled
the entire way! Pick is the only one who
doesn't know that he has reached retirement
and we include him in the kennel goings on
as much as possible. He has a heart of gold
and we will be forever grateful to him for
helping us take up this sport! |
